Coffee Date is a new column that features discussions of beverages stemming from leaves and beans. Whether you brew your own or need a hip barista pouring it in front of you, we’ve got you covered for brands to try at home, coffee shops with some personality, and what you should try or avoid from your regular coffee chains.
Sometimes, you need to cave in to relentless social media posts. After constantly seeing its ads on my Facebook and Instagram, it seemed like a good investment to order a sample pack from Bones Coffee Company. Over the past two mornings, I tried my first bag of coffee from Bones, their medium roast coffee.
I gave the medium roast a taste in two different headspaces: stone cold sober and hungover. While reading some poetry, on a relaxed morning, this was a pretty nice coffee. Even if it is only a medium roast, it has a very full rich flavor, with a hint of dark chocolate. It’s nice with a touch of cream too. The half and half really brings out the whole flavor.
Drinking this hungover was also pretty nice, but it’s easy to miss some of the flavors. It also doesn’t sit well in your stomach, but then what coffee does when you’re hungover? Bones’ Medium Roast was safe, but it seems like their other flavors will be more exciting, and since this was solid, I look forward to the others.
